Marble Looks Back is an interactive XR installation wherein a participant visits Marble, a projected hologram of a game character. Marble, who is puppeteered by an actor in VR, engages with the participant in an existential conversation about the awkwardness of interacting through a projection screen. The installation explores questions on the nature of the physical world versus cyberspace. Furthermore it plays with the possibility of both the game character and the participant secretly wanting to live in each other's world.

About the performance
Marble Looks Back is a collaboration between Innovation:Lab of Theater Utrecht and supported by Stimuleringsfonds Digital Cultuur. It's a project focused on exploring digital tools for emerging theatre makers such as XR technology. The goal is to make these tools accessible to everyone interested in creating interactive experiences in theater. The project aims to develop a prototype that demonstrates how these tools can be used effectively. Marble Looks Back utilizes a variety of obtainable technologies like rear projection, live streaming, and VR characters, showcasing innovative ways for theatre makers to incorporate XR into their productions.
Marble Looks Back and Innovation:Lab
The creators of Marble Looks Back aim to create an intimate connection between visitors and a projected hologram named Marble. They want visitors to feel deeply connected to Marble, even though they are aware it is a projection. Undoubtedly, this poses a significant challenge. With the help of Innovation:Lab, they've found ways to overcome these challenges. Together, they've created an immersive experience that brings Marble to life in a captivating and almost human-like way.
